Executive Coach Training Programme – Spring 2004 

This is phase 5 of a new UK initiative to create a training, and nationally recognised, certification programme for senior directors to qualify - in the rapidly evolving new 1: 1 coaching marketplace - as Executive Business Coaches.  

33 MDs representing £35bn turnover have completed the training programme in the first year since commencement in Autumn 2002.  They have helped to refine the process which is now open to all senior directors meeting the entry criteria. The 33 delegates from the foundation courses were the first in UK to have the opportunity to be professionally certified to University Post Graduate standard in Executive Business Coaching.

Attendance at the Spring 2004 training programme will be open to qualifying applicants with an optimum limit of 15 delegates. Along with the 33 They will be encouraged to participate in the set up of The CEO National Coaching Register, a provisional new body to identify the group for marketing purposes. Set up  plans are well advanced and there may be an option of regional franchising which is under consideration

NCR will be focussed on the provision of 1:1 coaching at MD level. The programme includes specialised training in coaching MDs and teams in the MBI/O (Management Buy In/Out) marketplace so that the coaching role can, if desired, be part of a portfolio that includes non executive directorships.

Programme Entry Credentials. 

As CEO’s initiative is breaking completely new ground and is UK market leading, revisions to the programme and its concepts are being made progressively.  Currently entry into the NCR programme is open as follows : 

1.  Founder membership. Open to Managing Directors with minimum 10 years experience of 200+ employees and £30m turnover with exceptional PROFIT GENERATION RECORD. They qualify for founder membership of The National Coaching Register and the term ‘Lead Coach’. They receive the qualification ‘Post Graduate Executive Business Coach’ and right to use the designatory letters PGCert Exec Coach 

2.  Affiliate membership. Open to Senior directors with minimum 10 years board experience in £30m+ turnover business; or CEO/Chairmen in sub £30m turnover SMEs. They qualify for Affiliate membership of The National Coaching Register and the term Affiliate Coach. They receive the qualification ‘Post Graduate Executive Business Coach’ and right to use the designatory letters PGCert Exec Coach

 

Qualification Procedure  to obtain the Post Graduate Certificate

All entrants must complete: 

§         The 12 day residential coach training programme in 3 modules (6 weekdays and 6 weekend days).

§         The additional study set out in the syllabus that involves :

·        A reading list of circa 5 specialised books

·        3 coaching assignments each of three days commitment

·        A 4000 paper on a self selected Coaching topic 

·        Submission of a Learning Portfolio to Derby University for Award of a Post Graduate Certificate in Executive Coaching

 Note. Delegates have the option of additional study over a one year period involving circa 150 hours distance learning and 3 weekend residential modules, leading to the Award of Derby University Diploma in Executive Business Coaching.

Age 66. Founder of CEO. A former financial services CEO with 10 years experience of coaching up to FTSE 100 Chairman level. More than 1000 directors have been through John’s training and coaching programmes. At any time he is 1:1 coach to circa 50 Chairmen/CEOs and MDs of well-known companies. He pioneered the training in UK of MDs in the MBI/O marketplace resulting in CEO organising the UK’s leading 1 and 3 day Workshops and Seminars for the past 6 years. John is a former Daily Telegraph ‘Financial Innovator of the Year’ and was co author of the IOD publication ‘Keys to MBI Success’

Sir John Whitmore. Joint Chairman, The European Coaching & Mentoring Association. Author of many books on coaching and development. Creator of the GROW coaching model. Age 45. Former CEO of food business acquired by MBI, who took sales from £40m to £150m, profits from £500k to £14m, floated on the stockmarket and sold the business.  A delegate on the second NCR programme who will speak on the relationship between commercial coaching and psychotherapy.

Rod Leefe. Age 47. Chairman of Witan Jardine Search & Selection. A graduate of the third NCR training programme who will discuss the potential for coaching as seen by the head hunter sector

Dr. Chris Ridgeway. Age 56.  Chairman of ODL Consultancy. Former MD of Psyconsult International and Regional Director of Hay Consultancy.  A Chartered Psychoanalyst and Member of  The British Psychological Society.  A 1:1 coach with more than 20 years experience working at  senior board level with major corporations

Naren Nanda. Age 53. Former HR Director of Unilever Home & Personal Care. He will outline his experience of set up, marketing and successful contracts secured, in executive coaching as part of a portfolio.

Note. As CEO is breaking new ground and testing new concepts of executive coach training, additional speakers have been included in earlier programmes on an ad hoc basis to assess special topics. This will continue with topics likely to include psychometrics, conflict counselling, set up and marketing of coaching businesses, different coaching models, entry into coaching in the venture capital marketplace etc.

Fees

Course fees include :

·         A Delegate Manual containing copies of all presentations and working papers

·         Checklists for each phase of the commercial coaching process

·         Lunch and morning and afternoon refreshments.

Fees are payable in advance*  (Personal rates – where the delegate pays the fee personally. Corporate rates are where the fee is paid by the delegates company).

 *  Early payment discount

The full fees of £5000 Private or £8000 Coporate are reduced to £4000 and £7000 + VAT respectively where a non refundable deposit of £1000 +VAT is received by CEO by Jan 31 2004, and the full balance is paid before Feb 28.

Instalment payment

Delegates may choose to pay the module fees in  instalments, not less than 28 days before each module – subject to a 5%  surcharge.  

Day Observers

Directors, and others with special interest in observing the evolution of this executive coaching initiative may attend at a fee of £500 + VAT per day. 50% of this is offset against the full programme fee if, within 6 months, the Observer joins the coach training programme. One day is also credited towards the 12 day qualification period. Observers receive copies of the presentation papers relevant to their day.
